Paying with Wise: buyer guide

You're buying crypto for cash. The seller's crypto is already locked in the deal, so you pay by bank transfer, prove the payment, and the crypto comes to your wallet. Here's each step.

What you need

  • The deal link from the seller. Open it and choose Buyer. No deal yet? On SettlePact, pick Crypto for cash and Send the seller a request link; they create the deal from it.
  • A Wise account in your own name, the same name that's on the deal.
  • To prove the payment yourself: a deal in USD, EUR or GBP, and a computer with Chrome and the free SettlePact Payment Prover extension. This is optional: without it, the seller releases the crypto once the money is in their account.
The Payment Prover extension isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet. Until it is, skip Step 2: pay as in Step 1, and the seller releases the crypto. Deals in other currencies always work that way.

Step 1: Pay the seller

  1. Wait for the deal page to say "Pay the seller". That means the seller's crypto is locked. Never pay before that.
  2. In Wise, send money to bank details: the account the deal page shows (IBAN, or account number with sort code or routing number). Don't send to the seller's email address or Wisetag. Only a transfer to those bank details matches the deal.
  3. Send the exact amount, including the cents, in the deal's currency, for example 512.37 EUR. The cents tell the deal apart from others, so don't round. (In currencies without cents, like JPY or IDR, the last digits do this job.)
  4. Leave the reference empty, and pay before the time the deal page shows.

Step 2: Prove the payment

  1. Install the SettlePact Payment Prover extension in Chrome, then reload the deal page. A Prove my Wise payment button appears.
  2. Be logged in to wise.com in the same Chrome.
  3. Wait until Wise shows the transfer as sent. That's often a few minutes, and sometimes longer.
  4. Click Prove my Wise payment, and paste the transfer's link (see below). Then click Prove payment. It takes about half a minute.

Finding the transfer's link: on wise.com, open your list of payments, click this transfer, and copy the address from Chrome's address bar. The long number at the end is the transfer number. Pasting just that number works too.

No computer, or not using the extension? Skip this step. The seller confirms the payment once the money is in their account.

Step 3: Get your crypto

Once the payment is proven or confirmed, the crypto goes to the wallet you chose for the deal, automatically. The deal page updates by itself.

Is my Wise login safe?

Yes. Your login stays in your browser, and is only used inside the encrypted connection to wise.com. SettlePact and its proof server can't read it. The proof reveals only the transfer's number, status, amount, currency and date, and the account it went to. Your balance, other payments and personal details stay private. See the privacy policy.

For sellers

If your buyer proves their Wise payment, the crypto is released without you doing anything. If they don't, confirm it yourself from the deal page once the money is in your account: release it from your wallet, or, in USD, EUR and GBP, send the bank's "money received" email. Check who paid, not just the amount: it should be the buyer named in the deal.

Have a deal link?

Open it and choose Buyer. The deal page shows exactly what to pay, and where.
